Description
The Wishbone chair is one of the few pieces of furniture that is instantly recognisable by silhouette alone. Its steam-bent top rail curves around the sitter, the Y-shaped back gives support without bulk, and the woven paper-cord seat flexes just enough to stay comfortable through a long dinner. At 4.5 kg it is light enough to move with one hand, which matters more in real homes than any spec sheet admits — chairs get pulled, pushed and borrowed for every other room. The frame is solid beech with a natural oil finish that can be refreshed at home; the paper cord is woven tight, tolerates daily use, and can be re-woven by a restorer decades from now instead of ending up in a skip. It is not the cheapest way to seat six. It is, however, the rare dining chair that will not look dated in ten years, and that is the honest case for it.
Use cases
- Dining tables that seat four to six and get used every day.
- A writing desk or dressing table that wants a proper chair, not a stool.
- Mixed seating: two wishbones plus a bench is a classic dining arrangement.
- Anyone replacing a wobbly flat-pack chair with something repairable.

FAQs
Is the woven seat comfortable without a cushion?
Yes for meals and desk work; the cord flexes slightly. For long reading sessions, add a thin seat pad.
Will the seat sag?
Woven cord tightens with use and can sag slightly after years — it is re-woven rather than replaced, which is the point of the design.
Does it stack?
No. It is a dining chair, not a canteen chair.
